Emergency Relief

Food Packs

A food pack provides a family with enough staple food for a month — rice, flour, lentils, oil, and essentials. For many families in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Gambia, and Palestine, it is the difference between a full stomach and going to bed hungry. Under our 100% Donation Policy, your entire donation buys food — not admin.

What a food pack contains

Contents vary by country to match local diet and availability, but a typical As-Subah Outreach food pack for a family of five includes:

Rice (10–20 kg)
Flour / Atta
Lentils / Dal
Cooking oil (2–5 L)
Sugar
Salt
Dried pulses
Dates (during Ramadan)
Tea / basics

Each pack is sufficient to feed a family of five for approximately one month. During Ramadan, packs are timed for delivery before Iftar begins.

Where we distribute food packs

We operate food relief programmes in four countries, working through trusted local partners who identify the most vulnerable households.

Afghanistan

Widespread food insecurity affects millions of families. Our food packs reach the most vulnerable households through local partner networks.

Recipients: Widows, orphan households, and families with no income source

Our work in Afghanistan

Bangladesh

Seasonal flooding and poverty leave rural families without food access. We provide food packs during Ramadan and year-round emergency relief.

Recipients: Flood-affected families and low-income rural households

Our work in Bangladesh

Gambia

High food insecurity in rural areas, particularly in the dry season. Food packs help families through the most difficult months.

Recipients: Village households identified by local community leaders

Ramadan food packs

During the blessed month of Ramadan, the reward for charity is multiplied. As-Subah Outreach runs a dedicated Ramadan food pack campaign each year, ensuring families can break their fast with dignity. Packs are distributed before Ramadan begins so families are prepared from the first night.

Ramadan food packs include dates, iftar essentials, and sufficient staple food for the entire month. Giving during Ramadan also qualifies as Sadaqah and, where recipients are eligible, as Zakat.

Common questions

Is a food pack donation Zakat eligible?

Food pack programmes that serve Zakat-eligible recipients (those below the nisab threshold) can qualify. Most of our programmes in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Gambia, and Palestine serve communities that are Zakat eligible. Check the individual campaign page or contact us for confirmation.

Can I donate a food pack in someone's memory?

Yes. Leave a note when donating with the name of the person you're giving on behalf of. This is a valid and rewarded form of charity in Islam.

How much does a food pack cost?

Costs vary by country. Check our active food pack campaigns on the appeals page for current pricing — it typically ranges from £25–£60 per family food pack depending on the location.

Do you give food packs year-round, or only during Ramadan?

Both. We run year-round emergency food relief programmes in Afghanistan, Gambia, and Palestine. Bangladesh food packs are distributed during Ramadan and after major flooding events.
