Sadaqah Jariyah
Water Wells
A water well is one of the most enduring forms of Sadaqah Jariyah in Islam. Every drop drawn from a well you funded continues to earn reward long after you are gone. Under our 100% Donation Policy, every penny reaches the ground — no admin cuts, no overhead deductions.
Donate to a Water WellWhy water wells are Sadaqah Jariyah
The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said: "The best charity is giving water." (Ibn Majah). Water wells are considered one of the highest forms of Sadaqah Jariyah — ongoing charity whose rewards continue after death — because the benefit is continuous. Families drink, crops grow, livestock survive, and communities thrive, all from a single installation.
As-Subah Outreach builds two types of water wells: deep tube wells reaching clean groundwater in areas like rural Bangladesh and The Gambia, and hand pump wells in communities where mechanised drilling is not accessible. Both are built to last 15–25 years and maintained by local community partners.
All water well projects are carried out under our 100% Donation Policy — administrative costs are covered separately so your full donation goes to construction, materials, and installation.
Where we build water wells
We work in three countries where clean water access is most critical and our local partnerships are strongest.
Bangladesh
Deep tube wells · Hand pump wells
Rural villages in Sylhet, Sunamganj, and Barisal where groundwater is accessible but infrastructure is absent. One well can serve a whole village for 20+ years.
Serves: 300–1,000 people per well
Our work in Bangladesh →Pakistan
Hand pump wells
Underserved communities in rural Pakistan where families walk hours to collect water from unsafe sources.
Serves: 100–500 people per well
Our work in Pakistan →Gambia
Deep water wells
Villages in The Gambia where seasonal drought and poor infrastructure leave communities without reliable clean water access.
Serves: 200–800 people per well
Our work in Gambia →How your water well donation works

- 4Community members are trained on basic maintenance
- 5You receive photos and confirmation of the completed well
- 6Your Sadaqah Jariyah continues every time water is drawn
Common questions
Can I dedicate a water well in someone's memory?
Yes. When donating, you can leave a note with your dedication. The well will be named and photographed accordingly. This is a beautiful form of Sadaqah Jariyah given on behalf of a deceased loved one.
Is a water well donation Zakat eligible?
Water wells that serve communities where the beneficiaries are Zakat eligible (i.e. below the nisab threshold) can qualify. Contact us if you would like guidance on whether a specific project qualifies.
How long does a water well last?
Our tube wells and hand pump wells are designed to last 15–25 years with proper maintenance. We work with community partners to ensure ongoing upkeep after installation.
Can I fund an entire water well myself?
Yes. Browse our water well campaigns — some allow full individual funding, others accept contributions that are pooled. The campaign page will indicate the funding structure.
